Moon Min-jong (20), 6th dan, took the top spot in the 4th Lee Bung-bae Rookie of the Year competition.
Min-jong Moon won the championship by defeating Ki-eon Kim (16)메이저놀이터 1st dan in 224 moves in the final of the tournament held at the Korea Baduk TV Studio in Majang-ro, Seongdong-gu on the 18th.
Moon Min-jong, who took second place in the 1st Lee Boong Cup in 2020, won the trophy in this year’s competition, which was the last time he competed.
Lee Boong-bae is a competition in which only 64 new players, including those who joined after 2020, participate.
Moon Min-jong, who joined the team in 2017, won the Ha Chan-seok Noodle Cup the following year, and in 2020, he defeated Chinese powerhouses at the Glovis Cup World Baduk U-20 and rose to the top.
Minjong Moon, 6th dan, said, “It was difficult until the middle, but I think I finished well. I didn’t have high expectations because the baduk content wasn’t good from the preliminaries, but the result was good.”
Minjong Moon was promoted to 7th Dan according to the Korean Academy’s promotion regulations.
Kim Ki-eon, who took second place, is from Jilin Province, China, moved to Korea with his family to study Baduk at the age of 10, and became a professional player through the 2022 Gifted Talent Competition.
In this tournament, Kim Ki-eon, who defeated the powerhouses one after another from the preliminaries, caused a sensation in the semifinals by defeating 6th dan Kwon Hyo-jin in a non-match match.
However, his dream of winning his first championship was dashed as he was unable to overcome Moon Min-jong’s barrier in the finals.
Lee Boong-bae’s winning prize is 10 million won, and the runner-up prize is 5 million won.
The time limit is a cumulative time of 30 minutes for each player, plus 30 seconds of additional time.
